Now and then.

It's so crazy to look back at this photo from when Annie was just 10 days old. I remember being a mess. I blow-dried my hair and put on a little makeup, but underneath: total mess. The adrenaline from giving birth and coming home with a baby was starting to wear off. My exhaustion was setting in. I felt terrified. And I felt very alone.

And now? One year later, I'm still exhausted! But I feel less terrified. I think it's so important for moms in all stages of parenthood to feel supported. To feel less alone. When Annie was born, I didn't yet know about the #IBDParenthoodProject, which is an incredible and comprehensive support system for parents who are in some way affected by inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. (Hello, Crohn's! That's me!) Throwing a chronic illness into the pregnancy and new-mom mix took the stress and anxiety I already felt to a new level, and I usually kept those emotions bottled up (NOT GREAT) instead of searching for good, qualified resources.

That's what the IBD Parenthood Project is for. To help. To support. To provide answers to all those common questions about the diseases, fertility, surgery, use of medications during pregnancy, and other factors that go hand-in-hand with family planning and #IBD. Check out the website — ibdparenthoodproject.org — and know you're in good hands. I LOVE YOU. You got this.
