Annie is seven weeks old today! For some reason, seven weeks became a sort of imaginary benchmark for me at some point. I felt like the first six weeks were a grace period. For six weeks, I could struggle, cry, and live exclusively off Oreos and Peanut M&Ms. For six weeks, I could have no idea what I was doing without feeling like I had to figure it out just yet.

Now, we’re seven weeks in. I don’t know what I thought would magically change. I still struggle sometimes. I still cry. Often. I’m definitely still living off Oreos and M&Ms. We still don’t have a “schedule” or much of a routine.

But Annie and I are super obsessed with each other. We both smile a lot, and she laughs at my dumb songs, and we snuggle as much as we can. I’m trying to get back into something of a work routine, but it hasn’t happened yet. I don’t know when — or if — it will.

Seven weeks with Annie. Seven weeks, and we are still totally winging it, but I’m feeling more confident about it all. I don’t know when the right bedtime for her is, and I don’t know exactly how much she eats or what time she will nap or for how long. But I know we are doing OK and we are happy, and also I ran a few miles in the sunshine today, which was really nice.
