Life with a chronic illness never *really* gets easier. Over the years, I’ve found different — and far more productive — ways to cope during the tough times. But I still have times during flares when I get depressed or sad or just don’t feel like myself. Yesterday, as I realized summer was ending, I got a little sad thinking I didn’t get to do as much as I wanted because my Crohn’s disease has been flaring since May. I didn’t go for a single sweaty sunrise run, I didn’t complete my resolution to run on The Long Path, and I missed out on lots of social activities on account of my unpredictable stomach. So then I did what I do best: I made a list. And turns out, in spite of this illness and its unwavering attempts to keep me down, I actually had a pretty good and pretty productive summer.

I went to San Diego. I checked off a big goal of hosting the first live Ali on the Run Show event. I saw baby seals in La Jolla and hiked through Torrey Pines. I interviewed @kayla_itsines, @arboone11, @robkrar, @karagoucher, @kiefferallie, @gwenjorgensen, and so many amazing humans who inspire me. I ran the @nyrr Mini 10K and somehow felt amazing. I went to three wonderful, love-filled weddings. I love love. I celebrated my mom’s 60th birthday with the whole family in the Berkshires. We moved. I spent three laptop-free days with @boldceo and Ellie in the Catskills, napping and floating and eating ice cream. And I grew a human.

So yeah. Crohn’s disease be damned, summer lovin’ still had me a blast.
