One year ago, I had the honor, pleasure, and privilege of interviewing nmoralesnbc for an episode of the Ali on the Run Show. It was a super exciting day for me — and at the end of the episode, Natalie complimented my interviewing and podcast skills. It boosted my confidence on a day when I needed it. I talked a lot about how great that afternoon was at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. What I didn’t brag about: the ferry ride into the city that morning, during which I had the worst Crohn’s experience of my life. (I’ll spare you the details, but it was horrible and embarrassing and ended with me running into a yoga studio to buy a change of clothes at 7 AM.) It rattled me, and wasn’t the way I wanted that day — or any day — to start. And then, just as Natalie and I were about to start recording, my computer died. All that prep I had done, all those questions I had cued up and typed out, and there I was, about to wing it, hoping for the best. I’ve always been a sucker for reflection, and today I’m feeling extra grateful for my health, for my ever-growing confidence, and for the kindness of both loved ones and strangers who have supported me during the happy highs and icky lows — which sometimes happen within hours of each other — of my Crohn’s journey, my career, and my big and little dreams. Good stuff.
