Welcome to our new weekly feature ✨ #HauntedHotSpot ✨, where we take a deeper look at some of the most famous (and famously terrifying) sites in the world. 

First up 👉 Winchester Mystery House 🔍🌴
Location: San Jose, California 

This bizarre and fascinating home was constructed under the careful eye of Sarah Winchester, heir to the Winchester fortune. The Winchester family amassed their wealth with the sale of firearms, including the 1894 Winchester Model rifle, also known as “the gun that won the West.” When her husband, William, died, Sarah became one of the wealthiest women in the world. 

Construction on the opulent mansion began in 1886, but never quite finished — at least until Sarah’s death in 1922 that is. (Yup, over 30 years of renovations! 🤭) Inside the mansion are 160 rooms, 10,000 windows, 47 stairways, 47 fireplaces, 13 bathrooms and 6 kitchens. Now to the even more mysterious part: There are doors that open to nothing, staircases that lead to nowhere and even secret passageways 😳. 

Rumors swirled as to why Sarah would build such an incredible, yet perplexing home. It’s been said that Sarah was haunted by those who were victims of the Winchester rifle. The property itself is also said to be very active, with plenty of paranormal happenings to keep visitors (and our own investigators) on their toes. Sarah believed the grand ballroom to be one of the most haunted rooms in the house. Care to take a spin around the dance floor and see what you experience?
