Arthur Ashe was the only Black man ever to win the singles title at Wimbledon, the US Open, and the Australian Open. He was both a symbol and a role model, and touched the lives of thousands of children and young people by encouraging them to stay in school and to play tennis. He organized the Arthur Ashe Foundation for the Defeat of AIDS, but also battled for an end to discrimination, in regard not just to race but to gender as well. "Arthur was a voice for all the minorities."
