It’s undeniable that #CaitlinClark deserved recognition of an amazing college career and a tip of the hat to it coming to an end, but maybe celebrate the ACTUAL WINNERS of the tournament FIRST🤷🏾‍♂️ When the headline is about gamecockwbb winning the championship with an UNDEFEATED RECORD, why would you show a joyous picture of Caitlin and the iowawbb team? #TeamDL

Centering Whiteness in the media looks like this. ⚪️

gamecockwbb won the championship after an historic undefeated season, but for some reason CNN decided to center Cailtin Clark and Iowa after they lost by including their picture before changing it? And when they changed it, they still kept the headline the same. Smh. 🤦🏾‍♂️

Clark has received A LOT of attention this year, and has deserved it. However, NOW is not the time to center her or White Tears. This is what it looks like to exalt and center Whiteness by any means. When you do this, you act as though White folks are the Sun, when they are just really a planet like us all. 🪐

But let’s not be shocked, because no one leaves their sociopolitical views and affiliations at the door when they watch, write about or editorialize sports. The political nature of sports is the very reason why staley05 is the FIRST Black coach in D1 (male or female) to win 3 national championships. This shouldn’t be the case because college basketball, like the NBA, is dominated by Black men and women, which means there are A LOT of former players who have been overlooked for coaching opportunities due to racism and the political nature of the hiring process. That’s the story. That’s the headline. Not Clark and Iowa. 📰

Congrats, South Carolina and Coach Staley! They ain’t lose one game this year! Let’s talk about that! 🏀
