In 2011, while vacationing in Mexico with his family, Jerod Nieder ran down to the beach, dove into the sandbar, and broke his neck.

After his injury, Jerod heard a talk about the Reeve-funded clinical trial, The Big Idea. In 2018, after being selected via lottery, doctors implanted cutting-edge technology, an epidural stimulator, in Jerod's spine. Two weeks later, doctors turned on the device.

"I just started moving my leg," Jerod says. "The tears started flowing, and we were FaceTiming with family members, completely astonished at what we were seeing."
