November marks #NationalFamilyCaregiversMonth. In honor of the caregivers in our community, we want to share their stories, celebrate their triumphs, and acknowledge their challenges. There are millions of caregivers who provide support and love to their spouse, child, sibling, and partner. If you are a caregiver, please remember there is strength in your voice and value in your story. Tell the world how you want to be seen using #ReeveSeeUs. 
Posted withrepost • joanie_fitz When I met Garrett 13 years ago I saw a charismatic, kind soul with a flair for perfectionism and a questionable sense of humor. His life was changed in December of 2015 and we were introduced to the word “quadriplegic” and the world of wheelchairs. 
My biggest fear was that people would see his chair and not all that he is. When we are out doing “normal things” we get a lot of stares as a couple with wheelchair and a newborn. I invite the stares. If you have a moment to stare, I have a moment to tell you who you are staring at, who you are seeing. You are seeing a husband, a father, a friend. You are seeing a man that works full time for a pretty cool job , manages a crazy schedule but still has time to steal cuddles from his daughter. You will see a man that has defeated the odds beyond physicality. It would be a lie if I told you that paralysis hasn’t changed him or us. Life is hard, it doesn’t get easier but you learn to roll with it. 
Today the reevefoundation launched the #reeveseeus campaign to gather the largest collection of stories from individuals living with paralysis and ignite a national conversation to challenges the stigmas and stereotypes wrongfully assigned to the SCI community. To my amazing family and friends, thank you for seeing G for who he is and not what he sits in. To everyone else please take a moment to #seeus. #joinreeve #sciawareness wagsofsci
