It has been a rough week, hell it’s been a rough few months. First covid-19 turned my business and my life upside down. Then #AhmaudArbery was murder followed by #BreonnaTaylor and now #GeorgeFloyd. For the last month, I’ve felt like I’ve been mourning the passing of a family member. And that’s because when I look at Ahmaud, I see my cousin. When I look at George, I see my dad and when I look at Breonna, I see myself. Running, sleeping, shopping, simple things I do every day but could potentially lose my life over because I am black.

Since I’ve been in mourning and my people have been in mourning, I didn’t find it appropriate to celebrate anything to be honest. When I found out a styled shoot I designed would be featured in thecoordinatedbride, I was excited but it seemed inappropriate to share the news because so many people (myself included) are hurting, angry and just plain tired of racial injustice in this country.
Then I realized that not sharing this news is actually not helping the problem. Non-black people can justify racism because they don’t see black people as equal, as human. It is impossible to treat people like shit if you respect them and see yourself, your family in them!

Well I’m here to tell you that black people are human! We are whole, real people! We fall in love, we get married, we go to college, we own businesses, we care for our parents, we raise our children, we love to laugh and travel and eat great food and drink good wine!
I am sharing this styled shoot so you can see black people just being. Loving, laughing, enjoying life like everyone else. The wedding industry hasn’t done a great job of telling stories of #blacklove but I will continue to use my page to show what #blacklove and #blacklife look like!
Visit thecoordinatedbride to check out our shoot and shoutout to the amazing vendors that helped me pull it off! -Leslie 🖤🖤🖤
