BREAKING: New findings from greenpeaceusa reveal that the Department of energy relied on outdated economic & environmental studies conducted by a network of fossil fuel industry consultants to justify approving BOOMING LNG exports at the expense of people and our environment. 🤯🫢⁣
⁣
Our research shows that several authors of these studies formerly worked with the notorious American Petroleum Institute, had overlapping business with the LNG industry, or now work in the gas industry, including at Cheniere, the U.S.’ largest LNG exporter. The studies also face scrutiny for lowballing methane leakage estimates throughout LNG supply chains, effectively downplaying the overall climate impacts of LNG. ⁣
⁣
Despite potential conflicts of interest, these foundational studies have been used over the past decade to green-light LNG terminals and rationalize the rapid scaling up of U.S. LNG exports. ⁣
⁣
The recently announced pause in authorizing new LNG export projects has prompted renewed calls for updated DOE LNG analysis and stronger transparency. The time is right for DOE to drop outdated studies tied to the gas industry and choose a transparent review process that breaks ties with fossil fuel-aligned consulting firms and accounts for frontline community input.⁣
⁣
Take action at our link in bio to tell potus and secgranholm to implement a fair and unbiased process for reviewing new LNG export projects. #StopLNG #EndFossilFuels⁣
