You may have heard of the “pygmies” before- but did you know that is a derogatory term? One of the ethnic groups that were in this category are the Baka people! The Baka have historically resided in southeastern Cameroon, northern Gabon, northern Republic of the Congo, and southwestern Central African Republic. They tend to live a semi-nomadic lifestyle, which is becoming less nomadic due to deforestation and pressure from other ethnic groups. They are the principal hunter-gatherers of the region and are known for their resourcefulness! They even track bee activity to gather honey! Historically, they have had difficulties in their countries with politics and human rights. 

They are just ONE of the fascinating African cultures we’ve been learning about in our research- and we can’t wait to learn more about them!
