Would you bid on this Cascade_Lacrosse #IroquoisNationals U-19 R helmet when it goes up for auction? (Details to follow) Cascade_Lacrosse is proud to represent and protect what's most important to the Iroquois National lacrosse program. An explained meaning from the #IroquoisNationals: "The concept behind the “Nation to Nation” helmet was the idea of bringing two First Nations cultures together in Peace and Friendship while sharing a passion for the Medicine Game. We felt it was important to carry with us our own Haudenosaunee culture as well as blend and adopt some of the culture of our host Coast Salish Peoples. These helmets will be raffled and auctioned off with 100% of the funds raised going to support the First Nations Community of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada and the Standing Rock Sioux Nation of North Dakota.
The Fort McMurray community was devastated by a wildfire earlier in the year and we would like to offer some financial support for the community. The Standing Rock Sioux are currently working to protect their water resources by holding off the development of an oil pipeline scheduled to pass through an area close to their territory and the water that sustains the community.
The artwork for the helmet was a collaborative effort as the Executive Director of the Iroquois Nationals commissioned Kwakwee Baker of the Squamish Nation to design two sets of crests in the Traditional Coast Salish style of art. Knowing that the Coast Salish and Squamish people are renowned for their artistic and ornate carving abilities we felt it was important to somehow capture the essence of their work. We asked Kwakee to use the Nine Clans of the Haudenosaunee People; the 4 animals, the 4 birds and the eel and blend these clan symbols to embody the art of his people.
