Over the past two years, Maine artist timothypwilson has traveled up and down the rocky coast and painted over a dozen of the preserves maintained by maine_coast_heritage_trust as a part of a collaboration with the nonprofit titled the “Maine Coast Sojourn.” From the islands of Broad Sound to the bogs of Trescott and Lubec, Wilson makes an effort to experience each preserve as any visitor would, whether by kayaking out to islands with his easel in tow or hiking the rocky cliffs with a backpack full of painting supplies. “I feel more integrated into the environment when I am involved in getting there,” Wilson says. “There’s a muscle memory. There’s the sensation of the waves and the air hitting me. It’s an exertion.
