For our May issue, associate editor rachelmariehurn headed out to the mud flats (toddler in tow) to learn how to harvest one of Maine’s true wild foods: clams. Maine is one of two states in the nation (along with Massachusetts) that have local, hands-on supervision from shellfish wardens who monitor and enforce licensing and harvest limits on these plentiful bivalves.
