When she heard planes overhead, it didn't take Bastrop resident Mary Bingman long to know what was coming next. "I called my neighbors and they said there was a fire and that we'd probably have to evacuate." ⁠

For many who live in the area the looming threat of wildfire is a part of daily life, and an active nearly 800-acre fire that started Tuesday echoes of 2011, when a massive wildfire ravaged the area. ⁠

But questions about how the fire came to be and why Texas Parks and Wildlife kept to plans for a prescribed burn after officials warned of dry conditions and strong winds Tuesday, still linger. ⁠
