Ann Marie Ramero, center, walks with dozens of protesters toward the leasing office at Mueller Flats apartment complex in Northeast Austin on Saturday, April 10, 2021. Ramero, a resident of the apartment complex, suffered major damages, black mold and theft from February’s winter storm. She joined other tenants and tenant activist group, known as BASTA, in a protest demanding compensation, transparency, adequate accommodations and timely repairs from property managers. This comes at a time when dozens of property managers citywide are sending out eviction notices as they repair building deemed uninhabitable, leaving many tenants with little to no options for housing. “It is totally unacceptable what people are having to live through here,” said city council member Gregorio Casar. “The storm impacted so many people, and some folks have gotten the chance to move on, but the disaster is still happening here.” #austin #texas #atx #protest #basta #texasfreeze 📸 brontewittpenn
