President Joe Biden has outlined an environmental agenda centered around a goal of transitioning away from the fossil fuel industry. The plan could pack a punch in Texas, which produces the most crude oil and natural gas in the country. For smaller operations, complying with the new regulations could come with additional expenses that could shutter their businesses for good. Part of the plan includes forming tougher methane regulations to incentives for Americans to buy cars that don’t run on gasoline. However Biden’s stance on environmental issues is a complete reversal from the Trump administration and differs from Texas policy. Another push back the Biden administration faces is changing the minds of consumers, especially Texas consumers. “The reason oil and gas producers remain in business today, to the great consternation of people who wish it didn’t is very simple: There is a demand for that product,” said Karr Ingham, consulting petroleum economist for the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers.
