Medics and firefighters are donning significantly more protective equipment to tend to the sick and the injured, but they still worry they could eventually fall ill or pass the coronavirus on to loved ones. “When I go to work, I have this bridge I cross,” said romeonavarro, a firefighter from Manchaca Fire Rescue. “Once I cross the bridge, I become a firefighter and leave it all behind. But once I get off, I go back to my family. I worry I might bring something home and get them sick.” For the last several days I spent time with first responders who are continuing to rush to emergencies during the coronavirus pandemic. Some told family they wouldn’t see them until the virus clears up. Others have come to to terms with the fact they may be exposed. One clinical specialist krislynmcsherry for atcemsmedics continues to serve her community while pregnant with her second child. “I know my daughter, I’m going to tell her that she was on the truck with me until 37-and-a half weeks, and I can tell my son as well that he was out there with me,” McSherry said.
