Protestors gathered outside of the Bastrop County courthouse to demand officials review new evidence that lawyers for death row inmate Rodney Reed say points to his innocence in the 1996 murder of Stacey Stites. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has consistently denied Reed’s claims of innocence, most recently in late June when it rejected analyses from forensic experts who said Stites was killed hours before she could have encountered Reed before her shift at a Bastrop H-E-B. Two weeks ago, the court also rejected, without comment, Reed’s request to delay his execution. Reed is scheduled to die Nov. 20 for Stites’ murder.
