For her #clothing business, WearDescalza, NCStateWilson alumna and former NorthCarolina4H'er LisbethArias normally designs statement pieces for formal events with a #Latin flare, but when #COVID19 arrived, she had to make an alteration.
.
Home with a newborn, Arias and her mother, a skilled seamstress, saw other clothing companies making #masks. She followed suit but also wanted to get the #community involved. Enter a partnership with NC State Extension where for every #mask sold, one would be donated to a #farmworker in need.
.
Arias started Descalza back in 2017, and its designs reflect both her native country of #ElSalvador as well as her travels to #Guatemala.
.
When I started Descalza, I knew that fashion is a way that we express ourselves, and as #immigrants in this country, we’re always trying to move forward but at the same time, we don’t want to let go of our roots. These #textiles represent that. They kind of reconnect us to our #history, to our ancestors. — Lisbeth Arias
