After using his first days in office to cancel mortgage insurance premium relief for homeowners and impede access to health and family planning services for women and children around the world, President Trump has now issued executive actions that will needlessly threaten the environment.⠀ ⠀
The #KeystoneXL pipeline won’t meaningfully reduce energy prices or create lasting jobs—instead it will carry over 800,000 barrels daily of dirty fossil fuels to be shipped overseas, cause grave threats to the local environment, and set back efforts to fight climate change.⠀ ⠀
In addition, President Trump's order to the Army Corps of Engineers to reverse or modify their decision to deny a permit for the Dakota Access Pipeline route ignores the voices of Native Americans whose sacred lands and clean water are at risk.⠀ ⠀
President Trump’s actions defy logic and common sense. We should be going all-in on America’s clean energy future, which would create good-paying jobs and help stop climate change—not doubling down on our centuries-fossil fuel.⠀ ⠀
The Army Corps of Engineers made the right decision last year in denying an easement for construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline under Lake Oahe in North Dakota, and President Obama's decision to block the Keystone pipeline was the right one. I will continue to fight the Trump Administration's decision to move forward with these two pipelines—a decision that completely ignores the voices of millions of Americans and threatens to cause serious damage to our environment.⠀ ⠀
