In celebration of Black History Month, we are highlighting some prominent African Americans who have been driving forces in the media industry.

Tom Burrell was one of the first African Americans in the advertising field. He was the first Black person to work in a Chicago advertising agency and he later opened his own advertising agency.

Burrell used his marketing skills to persuade advertisers such as McDonalds and Coca-Cola to use relevant messaging in order to reach the Black consumer.
