## Caption

Benny Goodman’s 1938 Carnegie Hall debut marked the first time people sat in a concert hall to listen to swing music rather than dance to it. The Goodman band was also one of the first racially integrated groups to perform in front of a paying audience. With more than two dozen performances at Carnegie Hall, the “King of Swing” entertained audiences for over 40 years.
