Let’s end this week with the dazzling end of a star 💫⁣
⁣
Over its two decades of work NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory has captured numerous spectacular images of cosmic phenomena, but the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A is likely its most iconic.⁣
⁣
Cas A, as it’s nicknamed, is the glowing debris field left behind after a massive star exploded about 11,000 light-years from Earth. When the star ran out of fuel, it collapsed onto itself and blew up as a supernova. Although there are no records to confirm this, astronomers believe this took place around the year 1680.⁣ Credit: NASA
