Here's a vintage look at engine testing of the Space Shuttle Main Engine, dubbed the "Out Test." This test, conducted in May 1988 in a wind tunnel at the John H. Glenn Research Center (NASAGlenn), shows what happens during launch if a space shuttle main engine fails.
