1. It will be NASA’s first exploration-class vehicle since the Saturn V took American astronauts to the moon more than 40 years ago. 
2. It will launch crews of up to four astronauts aboard the #Orion spacecraft. 
3. It will enable exploration of multiple destinations beyond Earth orbit including near-Earth asteroids and eventually Mars. 
4. It opens up to us new possibilities for robotic scientific missions to places like Mars, Saturn and Jupiter. 
5. It will support both cargo and crew missions to deep space. 
6. NASA has already completed the preliminary design and the launch vehicle has moved into production. (Woot!) 7. It offers the highest-ever payload mass and volume capability and energy to speed missions through space. 
8. It’s evolvable — beginning with a 70-metric-ton (77 ton) lift capability, to one of 130 metric tons (143 tons). 9. It builds upon proven hardware from the space shuttle era and other exploration programs, significantly reducing development time, cost and making the vehicle more affordable to operate. 
10. Together, Space Launch System, the Orion spacecraft and NASA's Ground Systems Development and Operations teams will pioneer the solar system. Their first flight together in 2018 will be the first integrated mission of the crew capsule and rocket, launching from a modernized multi-user spaceport at NASA's Kennedy Space Center.
