Comparison is the THIEIF of JOY.
.
I wish I would have leaned on this advice earlier in my career. It’s so dam easy to compare yourself to everyone in this sport day in and day out. The pressure that this game provides is A TON, if you let it be a TON.
.
I remember back in the day constantly comparing myself to other pitchers, am I as fast as her? Does she throw her change up better? Are schools looking at her before me? Why is she getting more playing time then me? Why am I not as good as her? The list goes ON.
.
A competitive edge in this game is important, and something you should remember, “Someone is always better then you are”… and “ Someone is trying to take what you want, so WORK HARDER.”
.
The one thing my mom and dad always did right with me was constantly allow me to understand that I need to work harder then anybody else at all times, because thats the one thing we can constantly control & rely on in sport. We can’t worry about how someone else performs, or if they are better then you are.
.
The uncomfortable you feel when you think of someone else being better then you, should be your driving FORCE to make you work harder then you ever thought was possible.
.
You only get so much time in this sport, our goals should be to be as open as possible to feedback, constant work on our mental game, and ruthless work when no one is watching…the better you know YOURSELF, the better you will be in college when you finally realize how hard and how much this game truly tests you.
