I was scared I was going to get really depressed after the Olympics and I didn’t know how I was going to feel. I felt so incredibly lucky to have this family of mine & the support from my friends. . Watching Madison compete has been a highlight for me. Her ability to understand moments… be extremely competitive and want to win more than I’ve ever seen brings the biggest smile to my face. . Sports isn’t always about winning. I think there’s something to be said about teaching children the importance of it. We’re not in it for participation trophies. We’re in it for the grind in the work and the work is rewarded at times by winning. . These last Olympics taught me that you can do everything in your power to prepare to win but it’s not always going to happen. I still remember losing to Japan and FaceTimeing with Madison post game and she was in tears because she knew we couldn’t fight for a gold medal. Almost uncontrollably crying. I had to wipe MY tears away and look at her and say this is why mommy has worked as hard as I have my whole career but more importantly the last four years for moments like this …because we don’t know the outcome of sports… but we do have the ability to control our work ethic. .
