Our world has been thrown into an emotional & physical melting pot of uncertainties. The arrival of a #globalpandemic has tossed gasoline onto a slow burn of underlying anxiety that has erupted into the mass panic we are seeing today. Unfortunately, as a society, we are not prepared to deal with uncertainty - we don't have the resilience skills in place to tolerate the discomfort of the unknown. So the question becomes, how do we develop this capacity to face the uncertainties of our world? Answer: we can practice! How else do you find your footing on the shifting terrain of a sand trap? Get in the bunker, dig in, & try. Focus your attention on the ball, put your mind to the task, & swing away. You might miss, scuffle, whiff, or fall over, but you develop resilience each time you keep trying. Here's a few tangibles for how to actually practice building this tolerance to uncertainty:
1. Try to be flexible:
You don't control the world. You can only control yourself. When life throws a curveball (#coronavirus), do your best to adapt to this "course change" by adjusting your attitude, shifting your thoughts, & creating new dreams.

2. Get OK with discomfort:
Feeling unsure of yourself is NORMAL in the face of massive change. Accepting where you are is a good place to start. Calm the inner voices, don't give rise to the panic, but assess the situation & realize it's ok to feel genuinely uncomfortable. This builds your emotional resilience for the next discomfort.
3. Learn from your whiffs:
We all miss. That's just a fact. But taking those mistakes or failures & learning from them helps build your resilience. Once you've embraced uncertainty, your creative capacity explodes, your ability to withstand unforeseen storms grows, your willingness to face the sand traps of life builds, & your ability to bounce back (#resilience) gets bouncier each time.
Simple enough? I know I'm ready to build my resilience. So let's use this time to practice uncertainty together.
