Each Tuesday of our mandated facility closure we’re taking a look at some of the sports technology we use at Athletic Lab in a feature we’ve called Sports Technology Tuesdays. This week we’ll take a look at our force platform setup from forcedecks.⠀

The force that you put into the ground, another player, or an implement (like a ball, bat, etc) is what determines outcomes in sport. The technique that we coach is actually an attempt to influence the forces that are imparted. In fact, most technical, tactical and physical performance variables are founded on this tenet. For this reason, going ‘straight to the source’ and examining the ACTUAL FORCES can be very beneficial. ⠀

We use our force platforms for:⠀
⠀
🎓 Education on kinetics⠀
🤕 Tracking return to play status⠀
± Assessing right-left asymmetries⠀
✅ Validating other sports science equipment⠀
💪🏽 Isometric strength and rate of force development tests⠀
🐇 Jumping tests including examining eccentric and concentric components⠀

In the first photo you see a workshop being taught by mikeyoungphd on force-platforms and kinetics at a recent Phase 3 Athletic Lab mentorship. ⠀

In the first video, you can see an isometric mid-thigh pull (IMTP) test being performed by NFL player primetime_lewis in what still stands as our facility record for peak absolute force. The IMTP is perhaps our most common usage of this technology. From this test we can gain insight on right-left asymmetries, force output, rate of force development. ⠀

In the final video, you can see the force platforms being used in a return to play scenario with an athlete who had recently undergone a shoulder surgery. ⠀
