## Caption

Using "complex training" involves the pairing of 2 exercises to induce what is known as post-activation potentiation (PAP). It can be used to push the limits of performance by momentarily 'hacking' the nervous system. .

In this video, our athletes perform an isometric mid-thigh pull (aka IMTP) at maximal effort for approximately 6 seconds. Following a rest period of about 2 minutes, the athletes then perform band assisted jumps. The thought behind this pairing is that the IMTP allows athletes to produce maximal muscular tension isometrically and this will carry-over or potentiate the more powerful plyometric activity. The band-assisted jumps force the athlete to produce force very rapidly. Time-limited force production is highly dependent on a high tension muscular contraction acting as an 'anchor' for the tendinous unit so the athlete can utilize elastic energy. .
