Last week during my time thedunkcamp , ryangarces3 hit 48” day 1 🎥:projectpureathlete ——————-
The approach in bilateral jumping is very interesting because it is considerably slower than one footed jumping. ryangarces3 Almost gallops into the takeoff, but he does two things very well that contribute to his jump height; he is relatively low early in the approach, and he has a good controlled speed. What do I mean by “low”? I mean, his knees, hips, and ankles stay slightly bent; almost like a velociraptor from Jurassic Park, he keeps the legs slightly flexed through the run. This allows him to minimize any of the downward forces caused by gravity at takeoff. Imagine dropping a leg press as fast as possible into a deep flexed knee position and then trying to explode upwards. The mass has already begun to accelerate towards the ground, and you must stop it from smashing you before you push up. This is synonymous to “jumping into the plant”. Some guys can get away with this a little bit, but you won’t see the best jumpers leap upwards into the plant of their feet. The second thing Ryan does very well, is carry a good amount of speed into and through the takeoff. projectpureathlete used the cue “accelerating through the jump”, which I think is a good conceptual cue for what should happen. Lastly, look closely at the position of the right knee during maximal flexion. It is a testament to why deep squatting is relatively specific to jumping.
