On this day in Def Leppard history: the band played their first ever gig on 18 July 1978 at Westfield School in Mosborough, England. 🤘

Joe recalls the night in the band's new book, 'Definitely': We opened with one of our own songs, World Beyond the Sky', which we later abandoned, never to be heard again. Steve came out, struck the pose, did a Pete Townshend windmill and...nothing. He'd forgotten to turn on his standby. So he went, 'Oops', flicked the switch and started again. Of course, everybody laughed at us but we got through the song and then the other 45 minutes of material, which is pretty much all we had, and then we went back behind the stage into a big classroom which was our dressing room. The teacher came in, said, Thanks, lads, and gave us five quid out of his pocket. Then we started hearing chants of 'More! More!' coming through from the gym, so the teacher said, 'I think you need to go out there and do another one.
