Student Highlight: Meet Nancy Coleman! Nancy moved to Denver a year and a half ago when she and her son decided to bring their non-profit, buttonandzipper, here. Button and Zipper is a community coat drive supporting at-risk youth, churches, and homeless people. They have distributed over 23,000 coats since 2013. Nancy has been devoted to helping serve others since she was very young. Nancy decided to take GED preparation classes at Emily Griffith this year. She got her GED in the late 80s and has always been in and out of school. But now she wants to refresh her skills. “It’s never too late to go back to school,” she says. Nancy hopes the refresher will get her to a point where she can do more with her non-profit, such as better understanding contracts and use more math in different areas of her life and the business. Nancy appreciates that Emily Griffith's instructors are happy to stop and explain when she doesn’t understand a concept. “It is not always that way at other schools,” she says. Nancy has been dealing with pain ever since she broke her back 30 years ago. She had to learn how to walk again. Now she copes through physical activity such as walking, swimming, yoga. She believes she can overcome anything! “My inner strength gets me where I want to go!” Nancy says. Nancy hopes to become a real estate broker but the test is very difficult. So she’s working to improve her math skills so that she can be successful. “Never give up on your dreams, there is no expiration date,” says Nancy. “Stay positive.” Congrats, Nancy! We are rooting for your continued success! #emilygriffith #emilygriffithtechnicalcollege #ged #college #scholarships #debtfree #denver
