During his interview with Men in Blazers, Haji Wright sends a message to USMNT fans ahead of Copa América 🗣️

“Just dream. We have to be realistic with ourselves but we have a great team,” he said.

“Why can’t we go to the final? Why can’t we win the tournament? There’ve been teams with less talent than us that went to the final.”

Wright has a big few weeks ahead of him. His Coventry side are pushing hard to get into the promotion playoffs for the Premier League and they are also in the FA Cup semifinals thanks to him. 

And then when the season is over, he will likely be with USMNT in the Copa América.

“Personally I haven’t reached the goal I set myself for the season. So I want to keep striving for better, I am hungry for more success,” Wright said.

He came from an athletic family. His brother and cousins also play soccer, while his other cousin, Joseph Addai, played in the NFL.

Addai actually won the Super Bowl in 2007, when Wright was nine. It inspired him to play American football, as well as other sports like basketball, before sticking with soccer.

A couple years later, by the time he was in 5th grade, he set his goal to become a pro soccer player.

For the elementary school yearbook, he wrote that he wants to become the best player in the world by 25. He also wrote about love for soccer, as well as his idol Ronaldinho. 

Now 26, Wright is obviously not the best in the world but he is an established player in England, scored in a World Cup, and won the USMNT a trophy. Not too bad.
