But the song’s prophetic verse section is sadly more true for the majority of Londoners today under Labour Mayor Sadiq Khan’s tax-heavy regime than at any time in our city’s illustrious history. “If you drive a car, I’ll tax the street… If you get too cold, I’ll tax the heat… If you take a walk, I’ll tax your feet.” London has become an exorbitantly priced city to travel in, with the Tube now having the highest fares of any public transport network in the world according to TfL’s own numbers… fares that just last year, Sadiq Khan was happy to hike by almost 6%. Motorists have fared no better, with his ULEZ expansion stealth tax making it even more expensive to take even short journeys. While the cost-of-living crisis is having such an adverse impact, the woke Mayor has continued to ratchet up the day-to-day costs for millions of Londoners. It’s no wonder he’s facing such a backlash. The Conservatives are no better: having introduced the ULEZ scam under Boris Johnson, it is hypocritical that their much-derided current Mayoral candidate is now choosing to criticise the policy her party previously implemented. We have two self-interested career politicians, both who want to tax the citizens of London to pay for their massive debts and white elephant projects. It is why I could no longer stand idly by and watch as the city I love is driven into the ground. I believe that the voters of our nation’s capital are demanding change. A new type of candidate, whose background is in business and not ex-lawyers turned career politicians whose only objective is to profit from their political position. On May 2nd, I believe London will elect a new Mayor. Someone who has solutions. Someone who is prepared to put their life on hold to make London a world-class city once again.
