#TEAMTREES and arbordayfoundation, in partnership with plantwithpurpose, were able to support an amazing 100,000 tree planting project in Burundi this year with the help of all of you! 

Burundi is among the poorest and most malnourished countries in the world, and also one of the most deforested and environmentally degraded. Deforestation has deepened poverty levels as farmland erodes and flooding destroys homes and entire communities. In the past, poverty has led to conflict. 

This year, Burundi has been severely affected by heavy rains and floods causing displacement and damage. In 2021, almost 400,000 Burundians have been displaced as a result of environmental disasters over recent years. Trees were desperately needed to protect the soil, reduce the danger of flooding, and provide food for malnourished families. 

Plant with Purpose reports that most tree planting goals were met or even exceeded this past year. With your support, they were able to mobilize farmers in Burundi to plant 100,000 trees to nourish and revitalize the soil, prevent erosion, promote biodiversity, and improve crop yields. With #TEAMTREES, families were able to stay on their land with better nutrition and health, income improved, and there were more opportunities for work and education.
