I have long been aware that I’m working in (and a part of) a racially biased industry, where POC are strongly under represented — but I’ve never had the WILL to do anything about it. I’ve never called out a brand I’ve worked for on their less than diverse Instagram feed, or told a panel organizer that I think a black woman should be on this panel too, I’ve not thought hard enough about how much wider, deeper and better my own life, work and online community could be, would be — if I created a brand, a community that was much bigger than just (little old) ME and represents more ppl, more places, more cultures, more races, more acceptance, more love.

I am absorbing so much this week, but the concept of being actively anti-racist and how to embody it (all the time, not just when convenient or to feel better about myself) is at the very top of my list. // housebeautiful and 38 Black designers gave just snippets of their experience and I’m grateful for their bravery, grace and leadership. This dialogue and momentum must continue. I want to be a part of it.

Everything will not change overnight, but as I think about my content, my brand, my language and my voice going forward I can promise you I’m thinking about it with a new set of eyes, several new books to guide me and hopefully a whole lot of love and beautiful design content ahead.
