Today is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and this year’s theme is Climate Action. While we are experiencing an unprecedented challenge due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our commitment to environmental protection and building a climate resilient community remains strong. ⁣
⁣
Here are just a few everyday actions we can all take to manage our energy use #fortheclimateyyc: ⁣
⁣
• Buy local food & products to support local farmers, producers & the economy. This also reduces the transportation emissions associated with the products purchased. ⁣
• Wash clothes in cold water! Bonus points if you wait for a full load before running the washing machine.⁣
• Use LED light bulbs whenever possible which use 70 to 90 per cent less energy than a standard bulb. Take it a step further and be sure to turn lights off in rooms that are unoccupied. ⁣
