Scouting Report:
Lafreniere is the reigning World Junior Championship MVP, and back-to-back MVP of the CHL. Lafreniere is an electric player. Despite not having elite speed, Lafreniere is superbly-talented off the rush. His hands and dangles are ridiculous, as is his creativity and deception when the puck is on his stick. His vision in the offensive zone is second to none. He threads passing lanes, and is always aware where his passing options are. Even under pressure, Lafreniere is able to execute some sweet plays. His finishing ability is also stellar. His one-timer isn’t a big threat, but his wrister is very good from all angles, and his finishing ability in tight is terrific. He fools goaltenders and defensemen on the regular. The Quebec-native isn’t all offense though. On a consistent basis he shows a willingness to play physical and throw some booming checks. He back-checks hard and makes turnovers all over the ice. Lafreniere is going to be an elite player in the NHL thanks to his unworldly offensive-gifts, and ability to turn ordinary plays into big-time chances.
