Amirov is the one Russian who I can confidently say WILL become a top-six winger, and if all breaks right, perhaps even a top-line forward at the NHL level. Amirov had a great season in MHL action, but wasn’t able to put up numbers when he was called up to the KHL due to a lack of opportunity. The first thing that pops out when you watch Amirov is his skating. He is incredibly elusive, and can maneuver around checks using his great edgework, along with the creativity in his hands. Amirov is also an excellent transitional player, who can carry the puck to open ice in all three-zones. His patience under pressure, and ability to out-wait opposition and make sneaky-passes is very good. He is a good player in tight, who has a nose for the net and scoring goals. I like his defensive presence, and feel he has a good enough defensive stick to play on the penalty-kill one day. I like how hard he back-checks, and that he is willing to throw his body around. That being said, part of the reason his play diminished in the KHL was due to a lack of strength. Once he gains the muscle, he should be able to dominate in the corners and in tight like he can at the junior level.
