The 43rd president’s book features 43 stories of those “who exemplify our proud history as a nation of immigrants.” Gilbert escaped a brutal masacre in the Burundian Civil War, an experience he detailed in his book, “This Voice in My Heart”

Today, Gilbert’s gzlfoundation partners with local communities in Burundi, providing access to clean water to villages, schools, hospitals and churches, transforming the quality of life for so many.
