“There is always a fear of not succeeding and disappointing the people around me, but the feeling of wanting to achieve my goals is a lot stronger.⁣
⁣
Tennis changed my life when my family and I moved to Australia. I got into the best Australian team and I was training with the best juniors. Seeing other people train and what professionalism is at a young age opened my eyes and I decided I wanted to be a professional player. My coach was living 1.5 hours from my hometown so I had to travel by train every day to get to practice, but I just wanted to do whatever I could to achieve my dream.⁣
⁣
All the way throughout juniors, my parents helped me with my tennis. When I turned 19, I decided I needed to take more control over my career, so I started managing my tennis on my own. This was a lot harder than I thought. Some days I had $50 in my account and wasn’t sure how I was going to make it through the week, but I was too proud to ask for help. ⁣
⁣
Shortly after my boyfriend got sick with cancer, and I found it really hard to be able to focus on my tennis. Alongside this, I moved my training base and country. With all this stress I was often getting sick and ended up injured for 6 months. After a very tough year with all this change, my boyfriend and I decided to move to America where he had gotten a job and I had found a new training base. ⁣
⁣
I will never give up until I have achieved what I set out to achieve. At the end of 2020, I was looking for a sponsorship and didn’t stop until I found support. This carried on with my search for a coach, then into the season to achieve my goal of playing my first slam, then to making the top 100. This went all the way to the final match of the final tournament of the season.⁣
⁣
I’m pretty good at dealing with pressure and I just try to focus on myself and the process, however, when I won my last tournament of the year and got into the top 100, I found it hard to live up to everyone’s expectations. I’m still in the process of just focusing on me and the process and not letting other people influence my mentality.” @panna_udvardy #BTR
