RepostBy mizzou2u: "Have you ever felt so broken that you couldn’t breath and you didn’t know why? Well let me speak on this. I have, back in 2009 in Springfield, Missouri I was at my apartment in college and all I could do was asked myself, “what’s happening to me?” I started to shake and panic because I thought death was creeping up on me. I wondered if somebody had punched me in the stomach, to the point where I lost consciousness. Or was I dreaming? No, I was suffering from something called depression and anxiety. As I sat in my room in the dark, with my eyes open feeling alone, my body began to shake again. I started to cry because of the agony and pain. The flashbacks of a traumatic events crossed my mind. I began to think of gun violence and my brother being murdered in broad daylight. I thought about my friends and family getting locked up, fights in my community, people in poverty, struggling just to make ends meat. In my head I felt responsible for the things going on in and around my environment. I couldn’t help the senseless violence happening near me and it weighed on me. Situations hit so close to home that it pierced my heart, both mentally and physically. I eventually garnered up enough strength to talk to my coach #CuonzoMartin about my feelings and struggles. I hoped and prayed that he wouldn’t judge me or call me weak because that’s what we’re taught. My game on the basketball court was diminishing and became non existent at times. Instead of judging me he found me a Therapist/Psychologist. One of best things that ever happen to me in my life. I unpacked my wounds deep down inside of my heart and the healing process began, just by talking to someone. This is a real thing! Although this is just my experience, other people have similar untold stories. Please love yourselves and take care of your #Mental. None of us are perfect and some even broken, but let’s learn the skills necessary to love each other and our surroundings, in order to save the next person. You might not think they are struggling but #mentalillness is equal opportunity. It’s can be caused by a number of things but it just takes one stressful life event to reach your door step
