Normally I'm pretty good about posting in relatively quick fashion, but I needed a week to reflect on what the 2019 baseball season with the @kccougars meant to me. I'll post more later, but here are some thoughts: (This is a novel. Go find coffee)
-----
The first thing you should know is that I wasn't ever "supposed" to be in baseball...let alone baseball full-time. To stay "sharp" and learn more about my style & gear post hockey season, I reached out to the local minor league baseball teams to see about building another area of my portfolio. A "help me - help you" offer ultimately landed the attention of the Diamondbacks' Single-A affiliate in Kane County, which is where a BIG thank you is in order to Emmet Broderick for giving me an opportunity to show what kind of "talent" I have.
-----
Every player/coach/staff member welcomed me to the team with open arms, and helped make coming to the ballpark everyday a delight. They all recognized my work, praised me for my effort, and treated me like I was out there in uniform with them. After an elbow fracture in late July almost derailed my season, the first people to offer their support and help in my recovery were the training staff, players, and coaches. We all treated each other like family, and that's something I will never forget.
-----
Singe-A ball is a place for people to grow and develop both personally and professionally. It's not intended to be the final stop along their journey, and there's a mutal respect throughout the orginization for the work, energy and emotion needed to take the next step. This group may never take the field together again, but each person will take the lessons learned from our time together in 2019 to move forward.
-----
Thank you to the players, coaches, and staff of the Kane County Cougars for an unforgettable season. Thank you for welcoming me as one of your own, and thank you for helping me learn and develop along the way. I love y'all like family, and wish nothing but good health and success in the future. Don't be strangers when I come to visit spring training in 2020, and never lose your passion/ambition to chase after your goals.
