We hope everyone is enjoying the last day of 2019! Our galleries are closed through Jan 1, and will reopen Jan 2 with extended hours (12pm - 8pm), in celebration of the final days of "The Pencil Is a Key: Drawings by Incarcerated Artists” (closing Jan 5!)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Alexey Wangenheim, an artist featured in “The Pencil Is a Key,” wrote and illustrated numerous educational postcards to his daughter while he was incarcerated in the Gulag’s first “rehabilitation center.” Wangenheim drew renderings of local flora and fauna, views of the White Sea, and even the total solar eclipse as seen here. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
