"As If: Alternative Histories From Then To Now" is on view in our Lab Gallery and Corridor. Wed-Sun 12pm-6pm | Thurs 12pm-8pm. The exhibition includes works in multiple mediums that offer examples of how we might reimagine historical narratives in order to contend with the traumas of contemporary life.

The longest running science fiction magazine in Britain, “Interzone” was founded in 1982. The issues of “Interzone” on view here feature stories by Eugene Byrne and Kim Newman that would later be compiled into the book “Back in the USSA”. Set in a version of the United States thrown into communist revolution following both the early death of Theodore Roosevelt in 1912 and the Chicago workers’ strikes of the early 1900s, “Back in the USSA” imagines a North American version of the Eastern Block, led by Chairman Al Capone. Famous figures from throughout the twentieth century appear as players transformed by this alternate reality.
