"As If: Alternative Histories From Then To Now" is on view in our Lab Gallery and Corridor through July 28. Wed-Sun 12pm-6pm | Thurs 12pm-8pm. The exhibition includes works in multiple mediums that offer examples of how we might reimagine historical narratives in order to contend with the traumas of contemporary life.

Vivian Caccuri's drawings expound on the mosquito’s outsize influence on the colonization of South America. Mosquitoes, and the diseases they carried, often posed serious dangers for European colonists as they made their way through the continent, determining where they could realistically settle. Imagining a world in which mosquitoes could harness their power, Caccuri creates an idiosyncratic visual lexicon to present a vision of history in which these airborne irritants have evolved to become the most powerful species on Earth.
