Open Sessions Artist 2018-20: Alexis Callenderwhen did you decide to become an artist, and why?
.
“I saw lots of art growing up, which I am sure played a large part in becoming an artist as a very reasonable thing to do. It turned out to be sort of reasonable. Art making gave me the ability to bring together all my interests overtime, it is like this amazing container or frame to think through endless sets of questions. I can think about history, geography, politics, storytelling…how we collectively remember events. Art making asks me to continually shift my perspective, which I appreciate.” - Alex Callender
.
Alexis Callender lives and works in New York. Her work has been shown in national and international shows, with solo exhibitions at the Project for Empty Space, and the Chashama Window Project Spaces in New York.
.
Open Sessions is a two year artist program of interdisciplinary events and exhibitions focused on drawing, organized by Rosario Güiraldes and Lisa Sigal.
